What’s in the name Baptist?
This church is a Baptist church by conviction and principle, not by affiliation. This means that we believe the basic Bible teachings for which Baptists have historically stood. As Baptists, we believe the following: the Bible is our sole authority for all matters of faith and practice. The church should be autonomous or self-governing. The believer does not need a priest, other than Jesus Christ, to come boldly to God. Every Christian has equal access to God personally. God’s Word gives us two ordinances for the church – baptism and the Lord’s supper. Each person is individually responsible for his decision to accept Christ. The separation of church and state is biblical. The believer is eternally secure and cannot lose salvation. There are two biblical offices in the church – pastors and deacons.
What does it mean to be an independent church?
As an independent Baptist church, we are not affiliated with any particular Baptist denomination or ruling body. Because of this, we can support our own missionaries, select our own leaders, and support institutions that believe as we believe. In short, our church answers to the Headship of Jesus Christ rather than a denominational body. There are currently more than 10,000 independent Baptist churches in America and thousands more throughout the world.
What does it mean to be non-charismatic?
This simply means that we are not a part of the modern-day charismatic movement. We do not practice speaking in tongues, faith healing, sensationalism, or believe in extra-biblical revelation. While there are many people who prefer to worship in this way, we choose to worship in ways that we feel to be consistent with God’s Word and with His plan for this church.
What is the philosophy about financial giving?
We have never practiced pressure techniques or fundraising schemes. Rather, we choose to occasionally preach and teach what God’s Word says about Christian stewardship and giving. How you respond to that teaching is a heart issue between you and the Lord. The only time you will be contacted about your giving is either when you request it, or when you receive our annual giving statement summary.
What time do I need to arrive?
Service times are found at the bottom of the website and can be found on every page. We recommend coming about 10 minutes early to ensure you get a parking spot and a seat in time.
What do I wear?
While we do not enforce any type of dress code, you will find that most of our members choose to dress above casual. The trend in many churches is to promote a casual environment. We have chosen, instead, to recognize that God is present and we want to dress in whatever our best might be. It is not an attempt to “impress” God or anyone else, but rather a sincere desire to honor Him.
What will my children do while I’m in the Worship Service?
A nursery is available for all services.
Children in kindergarten through sixth grade will enjoy our children’s program, where trained teachers and class helpers, have prepared to teach your child godly character from Bible stories. Children attend classes for each grade and then rotate into assemblies for combined singing, Bible stories, and games.
The youth department is a place for teens from 7th to 12th grades. Every week they are challenged from the Bible to give God first claim on their lives and to live as salt and light in their schools and in their homes.
What style of music is used in the Worship Services?
Our music is more traditional than the typical church today. In congregational singing, we primarily use a hymnal with occasional choruses added. The special music from the platform uses a mix of great new music, as well as timeless classics. We don’t use hymns because we are stuck in a rut. We still find them challenging, stirring, and more accurate in their reflection on God’s attributes. Once you sit through a song service, you’ll see why we believe that conservative music is alive and well.
What version of the Bible do you use?
We use the King James Version of the Bible. Because the Bible is such an important part of our services, as well as our primary authority, we have chosen to concentrate on one translation. The King James Bible has been a reliable anchor for English-speaking people for centuries now. Most of today’s translations seem to be more a product of marketing than accuracy. We believe a timeless, proven standard can be preached and explained in a way that everyone can understand.
How long is the service?
Service times vary, although the typical service averages 60-80 minutes. God’s presence is too important to make it a victim of the American rush. We also know that time is limited, so our services are organized to get the most possible out of the allotted time. We promise not to waste time.
